I’ve been challenging myself to find pretty and interesting macros from my yard. No grocery store bouquets allowed. My daughter was napping, and my son came out with me into the yard and used my cell phone to take pictures, too. Looks like I’ve infected him with my passion.
So what do you think? Did I managed to make ordinary weeds look good?
Update: Here is one of the ones my son took with the crappiest cell phone camera EVER. He’s three years old. I didn’t bother watermarking it because…well, yeah:

Beautiful. Did your son take the first one?

Nope. I have the crappiest cell phone camera on the planet! I’ll update in a little bit to prove it!

Oh…I didn’t know he was three, and I was going to give him high marks on that first photo….guess those will go to you 🙂

LOL thanks. He had my phone working against him since it’s so crappy. New phone tomorrow so maybe he can start taking better ones. 😀

NICE! they’re all great but my favorite is the star looking weed one (the first one). Very interesting. A+

Thanks! I really loved the way it came out. It’s just a dandelion that’s gone to seed.

They may be weeds, but they are beautiful

Thank you! I guess I should be grateful our lawnmower guy doesn’t come every two weeks like he’s supposed to!

All of these are beautiful. I especially like the first and third. Weeds are lovely … when we can see them.

Those are great! Your Macro is micro-tuned… 😉

Nice, I have tried macro lately too. What lens did you use?
John said:
All I have is a Canon SX30IS with just the solid mount lens. It has a macro setting but nothing like better models with much more advanced lenses.

Amazing photos. You definitely did a good job making those weeds look beautiful. I’ll never look at them the same way!

Thank you! I felt the same way. Never knew a dandelion could be so pretty!

Very nice pictures! Absolutely love the first picture, very crisp details!
Bless your little boy, it’s adorable that he’s trying to follow his mum 😉

First, yes you managed to make them look good.
Second, I’ll have to think about those maginicying filters now
Third, ‘Weeds are just flowers growing in the wrong place’ I don’t know who said if first but I heard it from a professional horticulturist!

Thanks! That’s a great quote. I’ll have to keep it in mind!

I’m always looking elsewhere to find the best shot but sometimes, they are right in our own backyards. A weed is just a flower that you don’t want. I personally think roses are weeds – I hate them and they pinch! Dandelions are not weeds to me. They have a gorgeous yellow flower, turn into a fluffy cloud that children jus love and you can eat them! Not a weed.

Thanks! I have really started to love dandelions again, since I had kids. They are so much fun to watch when they play!

Great pics! Half of my exploring is wandering the yard. It works for helping you ‘see’ better.

Hi Carah! The top one’s quite good, but its the second one down that I like most – I think its having the single sharp stem out front with the touches of yellow and purple in it, and then those out of focus echoes of it further back – and all against that lovely pale green backdrop. Good stuff! Adrian
